As I was flipping through the pages of the September issue of Vogue 2011, I couldn't help but fall in love with these beautiful pictures of model Lara Stone in these bright and retro feel oversize knits paired with 60s long skirts. The pictures reminded me of the character, Betty Draper from Mad Men played by actress January Jones.
There is no denial that Lara in her "Betty Draper-esque" hair (from Mad Men) with a tiny bit of blush and some serious red lipstick appears to be channeling the sophistication and femininity of 1960s suburban housewives with a modern touch of its own.
To add a little retro feminine style into your modern-day look or draw some '60s inspiration into your personal style , pair your sheath dresses with a classic camel colored trench, add some bright-hued pullovers/crewnecks and even a leopard print cardigan to your structured long skirts/high-waisted pencil skirts. And, remember! No 60s look is complete without some bold red lipstick and cultured pearls.
So, are you ready to take a fashion trip back to the 60s?

A fashionable education
So, I watched the movie An Education this afternoon (set in 1960′s suburban England starring Carey Mulligan and Peter Sarsgaard) and I absolutely loved it. Everything about the movie was amazing--the script, characters and the storyline. However, the best part of the movie was the character Jenny's wardrobe played by Carey Mulligan. It was great to see Jenny evolve from a plain-Jane schoolgirl into an elegant cultured woman. Her evolving style was very much similar to Audrey Hepburn's Breakfast at Tiffany's - but more colorful, bold and vibrant.
MyTangerine Dream
This year, the winter has been pretty brutal and deceptive for mid -westeners . So, I can't wait for spring to arrive. I have been fantasizing about spring so much lately that I actually can't wait to incorporate some tangerine pieces into my wardrobe.
My list comprises of the following:
A burnt orange dress (perhaps a maxi dress)
A deep orange skinny belt
Some eye popping tangerine accessories

What’s in your Spring closet?
Spring is right around the corner (or at least I'd like to think so), therefore it’s a great idea to start stocking up your closet with some great spring essentials.
Here are some ten spring essentials that every girl should have:
1. A classy nude, peach or even a white boyfriend blazer that has a California cool vibe to it and something that works well for spring and summer dresses, denim shorts, skinny jeans and khaki pants

2. Some gold accessories like bangles, hoops, and some long chain necklaces to go with dresses and spring blouses. When choosing gold accessories, try to stay away from the tacky ones.
4. Turquoise jewelry (can be earrings or necklaces) that will look beautiful on white cotton dresses or even on white blouses paired with denim shorts.
5. Ruffle blouses in peach and nude colors. Something that exudes a romantic and a beautiful feeling.

6. Basic tees in different colors to layer them on top of denim shorts and jeans.
8. A pair of brown and a tan belt that will go with most outfits for spring and summer.
9. A boho bag for casual wears- there are many diff. colors you can choose from. Try flea-markets for great finds.

Meet Silje
She is a journalist, fashion blogger, stylist and a personal shopper. Her style is very eclectic and she is definitely not afraid to experiment. Her love for vintage is definitely seen in her choice of everyday clothes, however she definitely adds a modern twist to it, thus making it very effortless.
Her love for minimalism and simplicity is charming and refreshing at the same time.
And, I am proud to introduce her in my blog as my "it" girl for the month of January.
